Actress Robin Wright showcases her versatility by taking on a dual role as both the star and director of the new Prime Video series, The Girlfriend. While she admits the process was challenging and exhausting, she describes it as a “labour of love” and expressed immense gratitude for her supportive cast and crew. The series, a psychological drama, is based on a novel by Michelle Frances and also stars Olivia Cooke, Waleed Zuaiter, and Laurie Davidson.
Directing While Acting: A Unique Experience
Co-star Waleed Zuaiter, who plays Wright’s husband in the show, was particularly impressed by her ability to seamlessly transition from being a scene partner to a director. He found it a fascinating and new experience to be directed by the very person he was acting alongside. Zuaiter noted that Wright’s directing style mirrored the on-screen relationship between their characters.
The Plot of the Series
The Girlfriend follows Laura (played by Wright), a woman who seems to have a perfect life until her son, Daniel, introduces his new girlfriend, Cherry. This new relationship begins to unravel Laura’s seemingly idyllic existence, setting the stage for the psychological drama.
